21. Harvee Pene on The Social Responsibility of Entrepreneurs, Our Interconnected World and Finding Your Impact

Our latest guest on That Bad Review is one of those rare people who has dedicated his life to something positive.

Harvee Pene, founder of Inspire, is an accountant on a mission. Having grown up in some rough neighbourhoods in New Zealand, Harvee came to Australia at a young age. He saw it as a land of opportunity, and in turn he has used that opportunity to do something good in the world.

Now, his accounting firm is focused on helping small businesses and giving back to the world through charitable donations. Throughout this episode, Harvee shares his wonderful worldview and give us real tips on how we can make a difference in our lives.

We also chat about:

  • How growing up in a rough part of New Zealand shaped Harvee’s worldview
  • Why the attitude of big accounting firms pushed Harvee to do something more impactful
  • Turning impact into income
  • The journey involved in writing a book
  • Dealing with imposter syndrome
  • Why entrepreneurs, not governments, are sometimes the most impactful agents of change
  • Why you shouldn’t wait until you’ve ‘made it’ to give back
