11. Daniel Tilton on Facing Seasonality Challenges, Marketing Insights and Thriving in the Accommodation Industry

Today on That Bad Review Podcast I’m speaking with Daniel Tilton, CEO for Next Generation Holiday Parks, a ‘family multinational’ that owns and operates holiday parks in both Australia and New Zealand. Daniel is the strategic brain of the company, as well as overseeing day to day operations of our parks.

This episode is nostalgic for me because it was with a Tilton run business that I got my start in the industry. In our wide-ranging conversation we spoke about Daniel’s experience in (and out) of the accommodation industry, his thoughts on different marketing approaches, seasonal challenges and of course that one bad review.

Listen to the full episode to hear all of the above, plus things like:

  • The backstory of Adrian’s start in the industry
  • Daniel’s take on experienced Vs ‘blank slate’ employees
  • Daniel’s experience branching his business into New Zealand
  • The pros/cons of transient guests
  • The challenge in family-run businesses
  • Daniel’s advice for others preparing to lead a company
  • How an MBA can serve you in the accommodation industry
  • Common pain points with online bookings (and what to do)
  • The importance of first impressions
  • The worst review Daniel has ever received
